nani: Washington, DC; I'm Nani, and my favorite place is in my kitchen. It's the center of my home and my family's life. Though I spend most of my waking hours thinking about food, these days I'm mostly serving up bowls of cereal and buttered pasta. Jake, my first J, is my older brother by 15 months, and the most wickedly funny person I've ever known. He has always led the way as an audacious adventurer in life and in the kitchen. He cooks by taste, with assuredness and without measuring any ingredients. He's more efficiently than anyone I've seen. Joey is my second J, my younger brother by 2 1/2 years, the keenest, most hilarious observer of the world and my best friend. He found his way to the kitchen a few years ago and is, in many ways, Jake's opposite, slowly plodding along, following recipes with exaction. His food is perfection and his kitchen is a disaster. Josh is my third J, my husband, my blessing. He is kindness, intelligence, patience, determination, support, and maker of the greatest coffee and cocktails I've ever had. It makes me tremendously anxious when he decides to cook.
